Privacy Policy — Selah: Daily Prayer & Verses

Selah is a personal prayer and scripture app. We respect your privacy and are committed to being fully transparent about what data we collect, why we need each device permission, and how the Bible content is sourced.

1. Information We Collect

Selah is designed to work primarily on-device. We do not collect, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information to our servers. Specifically:

No account required — you never sign up or log in.
Prayer history is stored locally on your device using a private Room database. It never leaves your device.
Your name, age, and language preference (entered during onboarding) are saved only in the app's private SharedPreferences — never uploaded.
Your prayer time is saved locally to schedule your daily alarm. It is never shared.

2. App Permissions — Why We Need Them

Selah requests the following Android permissions. Each serves a single, clearly defined purpose:

SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM

Daily Prayer Reminder

This permission lets the app schedule your prayer reminder at the exact time you choose — even when the device enters battery-saving (Doze) mode. Without it, Android may delay or skip your alarm. We use this solely to fire your daily prayer notification at your configured prayer time. No data is transmitted.

SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW

Display Over Other Apps (Prayer Overlay)

When your alarm fires, Selah opens a full-screen prayer screen — even if your device is locked or another app is in the foreground. This "draw over other apps" permission is required for that lock-screen overlay. It is only ever used to present the prayer session screen. The app never reads screen content from other apps, displays ads, or monitors your activity.

RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED

Reschedule Alarm After Reboot

Android cancels all scheduled alarms when a device restarts. This permission allows Selah to listen for the system boot event so it can automatically reschedule your prayer alarm after a reboot. No personal data is accessed or transmitted during this process.

INTERNET

Bible Database & Asset Download

Selah downloads the Bible text database and audio content on first launch (or when you switch language). This is a one-time download of open-source content. After download, most features work fully offline. We do not use this permission to track you, serve ads, or collect analytics.

3. Bible Content & Scripture Attribution

All Bible text used in Selah is sourced from openly licensed, public-domain translations. We do not claim copyright over any scripture content. The translations used are freely available for use in non-commercial and educational applications.

If you believe any scripture content displayed in Selah infringes on a copyright or has been reproduced in error, please contact us immediately at infokaydev@gmail.com and we will review and correct it promptly.

4. Third-Party Services

Selah uses a small number of third-party services to deliver content. These services are limited to:

Unsplash (image CDN) — Inspirational images displayed in the app are served from Unsplash. These requests include a standard HTTP request with your IP address, as is normal for any image load. Unsplash's own privacy policy applies to those requests.
Firebase Remote Config — Used to deliver dynamic theme options without requiring an app update. No personal user data is included in these requests.

We do not integrate any advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs (e.g. Google Analytics, Mixpanel), or social login providers.

5. Data Storage & Security

All user data (prayer history, saved verses, streaks, preferences) is stored exclusively in your device's private app storage using Android's Room database and SharedPreferences. This storage is:

Inaccessible to other apps on your device (Android sandboxing).
Deleted automatically when you uninstall Selah.
Never backed up to any cloud service operated by us.

6. Children's Privacy

Selah does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13. The app does not require account creation and stores no personally identifiable information on external servers. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us at infokaydev@gmail.com.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
